Bannister Family House Heart

Bannister Family House Heart Concept

Concept

This mosaic concept was created for the Bannister Family House at UC San Diego Health. The Bannister Family House’s mission is to provide a home away from home for families of patients undergoing long-term care at UC San Diego Health. The inspiration for the design was a beautiful red and purple mosaic heart at the front entry of the Bannister House by San Diego mosaic artist, Kim Emerson. We transformed Kim’s colorful red and purple heart into stone and a central focal point of the Bannister Family House courtyard.

Bannister Family House Heart Fabrication

Fabrication

With Kim and I leading the mosaic fabrication effort, we recruited wonderful helping hands to glue and place tile and stone. Pictured here is a gentleman staying at the Bannister House after having a heart transplant, a woman who’s husband was in urgent care at UC San Diego Health, and the family of late Ralph Bannister.
